We are seeking a highly experienced Precision Machining Estimator to lead the technical and commercial development of competitive, data-driven quotations. This role requires deep expertise in CNC machining processes, manufacturing strategy, cost modeling, and cross-functional collaboration.
Core Responsibilities- Conduct thorough technical review of RFQ packages (drawings, models, specifications, quality requirements, certifications, and contractual terms).
- Assess manufacturability, risk, and cost drivers for precision machined components and assemblies.
- Collaborate with Sales and customers to clarify scope, tolerances, special processes, and technical requirements.
- Initiate and lead cross-functional quote kickoff meetings (engineering, operations, quality, supply chain).
- Develop detailed cost models including:
- Machine cycle time calculations
- Tooling strategy and consumables
- Outside processing (plating, coating, heat treat, etc.)
- Labor and overhead allocation
- Coordinate with Supply Chain to establish materials and subcontractor pricing strategy.
- Partner with Engineering and Operations to validate routing, machine selection, fixturing strategy, and capacity alignment.
- Consolidate all cost inputs into standardized quoting templates.
- Prepare quote-to-quote variance analysis and margin sensitivity reviews.
- Present final costing models to leadership for approval.
- Lead formal quote review meetings.
- Issue finalized pricing proposals to Sales or directly to customers as required.
- Maintain quote log / CRM system and track open quotes for win/loss analysis.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quote velocity and accuracy.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or related discipline preferred.
- Journeyman Machinist certification or equivalent hands‑on machining background strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience estimating precision CNC machined components in a job shop or contract manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of:
- Multi-axis CNC milling and turning
- Swiss machining (preferred)
- Tight‑tolerance machining
- GD&T interpretation
- Lean manufacturing principles
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical drawings into executable cost models.
- Experience quoting for regulated or high‑spec industries such as:
- Aerospace
- Medical device
- Robotics
- Pharmaceutical
- Food‑grade equipment
- ERP system proficiency and structured quote documentation experience.
- Strong Excel modeling capabilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail; accuracy is critical.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex quotes in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Collaborative team contributor who demonstrates initiative and ownership.
- Strong meeting management discipline.
- Office‑based role with frequent interaction on the manufacturing floor.
- Regular exposure to machining operations, mechanical equipment, and material handling systems. PPE required when in production areas.
- Ability to walk the shop floor and review active production processes.
- Ability to stand, walk, and interact within a manufacturing environment for extended periods.
- You will need to be able to walk the shop floor and be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
