Job Purpose

Provides overall management of field operations to one or more water resources projects, establishes field objectives and policies, safety, quality control, monitors construction and financial activities through administrative direction of Project Manager, as well as mentoring Project Superintendents.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Manages all field operations.
  • Creates and manages the cost‑loaded project schedule.
  • Coordinates labor, equipment, subcontractors, drawings, and specifications.
  • Responsible for all labor and equipment costs, including input with monthly projections.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and mitigates project risk.
  • Understands contract documents to foresee problems before they arise.
  • Communicates quality standards to each subcontractor and vendor.
  • Manages jobsite cleanliness.
  • Assists the Project Manager in preparing monthly billings.
  • Prepares daily logs.
  • Assists in estimating change orders and future projects.
  • Understand and prepare EEO logs as required.
  • Manages recruiting and evaluating new talent.
  • Adjusts field staff size, increasing or decreasing crew sizes as needed.
  • Communicates with other projects to share resources.
  • Assigns tasks and areas of responsibility to labor foreman and project superintendents.
  • Ensures on‑site construction equipment is maintained.
  • Receives materials and records condition of shipments.
  • Updates progress timely and accurately in the project schedule.
  • Creates and manages a 3‑week look‑ahead schedule.
  • Tracks production units completed each week.
  • Manages punch list completion and project closeout.
  • Plans work to ensure each crew member under supervision has all materials, tools, and equipment to complete the work.
  • Ensures crew safety planning is completed and followed.
  • Ensures crew quality planning is completed and followed.
  • Participates in routine schedule and coordination meetings with project staff for material, equipment, subcontractor, and labor needs.
  • Maintains accurate timekeeping for crews under responsibility.
  • Ensures accurate daily reports and critical information are documented and completed regularly and timely.
  • Coordinates and communicates engineering and layout needs with the other project team members.
Reporting Relationships
  • Position reports to the Regional Leader.
  • Position is mentored by the Senior Superintendent.
  • Position mentors Project Engineer, Project Superintendent, Labor Foreman.
  • Works closely with Project Manager, Senior Project Manager.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • 2‑year technical college or equivalent experience required; 4‑year degree in related field preferred.
  • On‑site experience required.
  • Formal apprenticeship training, journeyman improvement classes, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 5‑10 years general construction experience preferred.
Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Ability to communicate and understand different complex requirements of various project types and to work with different personality types.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.…
