Job Summary:
The Spiritual Care Associate provides compassionate and holistic spiritual care to patients and their families within a diverse healthcare environment. Working as an integral member of the healthcare team, the Spiritual Care Associate offers spiritual and emotional support to residents navigating the challenges of illness, loss, and life transitions. This role is grounded in the Common Spirit Health values of compassion, inclusion, integrity, excellence and collaboration in daily work.
St. Leonard is a Catholic, non-profit, senior living community which maintains a commitment to and respect for the spiritual and religious beliefs of all individuals, regardless of their background.
• Conduct regular rounds to identify and assess spiritual needs of patients and their families. Provide active listening, empathetic presence, and spiritual support in a non-judgmental manner.
• Offer support during times of crisis, grief, and loss, including end-of-life care. Connect patients and families with community clergy or religious leaders according to their traditions and preferences.
• Document spiritual care interventions and assessments accurately and timely in the patient's electronic health record.
• Coordinate and/or lead chapel services for Catholic and Protestant residents.
• Coordinate spiritual care volunteers.
• Support spiritual care team programs and services.
• Oversight of chapel and spiritual care supplies and support services.
Experience/Education
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred, in theology, pastoral ministry, or a healthcare related field; a demonstrated familiarity with a diversity of spiritualities; the knowledge and ability to work effectively within the framework of the Catholic Church; and alignment with the spirit of Common Spirit Health. Strong preference is for an active Catholic; exceptions include only candidates supportive of the Catholic heritage and practices with experience in Catholic healthcare.
Experience:
Experience working with the elderly required; preferred in a healthcare setting. One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent education/training in pastoral care preferred with the expectation that candidates would complete one unit during the first year of employment. An ecumenical spirit and a sense of humor are invaluable.
Salary/Compensation: $24.00 - $27.20 per hour
