Certified Pharmacy Technician
Premier Health Partners – Miami Valley Hospital
Full Time – 80 hours per pay period. Department:
Pharmacy.
Shifts:
varied.
- Entering information into and retrieving information from a database or patient profile
- Preparing and affixing labels
- Stocking dangerous drugs and retrieving those drugs from inventory
- Counting and pouring dangerous drugs into containers
- Placing dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist
- Non-sterile drug compounding following completion of site‑specific training
- Sterile drug compounding following completion of site‑specific training
- Stocking automated drug storage systems, floor stock, and crash carts
- Prepare medication doses prior to a pharmacist’s review & dispensing
- Perform non-sterile and sterile medication compounding after required training
- Restock medications in automated dispensing cabinets
- Delivery of medications to patient care areas
- Monitor drug inventory levels to ensure a continuous supply of medications without stockpiling supplies
- Troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy
- Must be familiar with pharmacy software
- Must use aseptic technique, wear appropriate attire, and follow standards in aseptic compounding
- Must maintain clean and safe working environment
- Other duties as assigned
Education: Minimum – High School completion/GED. Preferred – Completion of an ASHP/ACPE‑accredited technician education and training program.
Licensure/Certification: Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a “Certified Pharmacy Technician” or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire.
Experience: Minimum – No prior job‑related work experience. Preferred – Prior hospital, long‑term care or retail experience.
Knowledge &
Skills:
- Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem‑solving skills
- Able to read and write printed material in English
- Proficiency with computer keyboard operations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred
- Ability to compute simple algebraic ratios, volume/volume percentage and weight/volume percentage
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy. Must be familiar with pharmacy software
- Possess ability to work well with other health‑care workers and perform as team member
- Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
