Responsibilities & RequirementsAdvanced Practice Provider (APP) provides critical care services using evidence‑based practice, research, and current clinical knowledge. The APP demonstrates advanced medical and/or nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professionalism, timely documentation, and ongoing professional development. APP works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and supervising physicians to perform history taking, clinical assessment, physical examination, order entry, documentation, interpretation of diagnostic studies, clinical diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of care for the given population.
APP may have on‑call duties and/or weekend responsibilities as assigned and performs other duties as assigned.
- Perform Quality Assurance chart reviews: 25 charts for new graduates, 10 for established providers.
- Perform endotracheal intubations, arterial lines, central lines, and temporary hemodialysis catheter placement.
- Evaluate signs and symptoms, noting pertinent positives and negatives.
- Assess complex acute, critical, and chronic patients, obtaining comprehensive health histories, prioritizing data collection, and using collateral sources.
- Develop and reformulate differential diagnoses, identify comorbidities, and use diagnostic strategies and technical skills to monitor and sustain physiological function and ensure patient safety.
- Participate in daily team transition huddles to facilitate coordinated patient care.
- Utilize evidence‑based practice, prescribe appropriate pharmacologic (including medication reconciliation) and non‑pharmacologic treatments, implement orders, and interpret lab and diagnostic testing.
- Monitor and ensure quality of care through consultation, collaboration, continuing education, certification, and evaluation.
- Engage in interdisciplinary peer review and improve own practice.
- Adapt teaching and learning approaches based on physiological and psychological changes, age, developmental stage, cognitive status, readiness to learn, health literacy, environment, and available resources.
- Participate professionally and collaboratively to identify processes and principles that meet quality core metrics and documentation standards.
- APRN:
Master’s degree with Advanced Practice Nursing Focus and National Board Certification required. - PA:
Master’s degree required with appropriate National Certification.
- Preferred 2+ years of Advanced Practice Provider Experience.
- APRN:
National Board Certification as a CNP, CNS, CNM, or CRNA and Acute Care Certification. - PA:
National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Current Ohio Board of Nursing license for APRN.
- Current Ohio License 50RX – license to practice as a physician assistant with prescriptive authority.
- Ability to communicate and relate well with staff, providers, and the public.
- Awareness of patient confidentiality and independent work with little direction.
- Positive interpersonal relationships and critical analysis skills.
- Multitasking ability and performance under stress.
- Maintenance of competencies in specialty area of practice.
- Assessment skills, diagnostic reasoning, and implementation of plan of care.
- Clinical reasoning and building collaborative intra‑ and interprofessional relationships.
- Advocacy for patient population and profession through active participation in health policy.
- Managing and negotiating healthcare delivery systems and addressing development and implementation of system policies.
Acute Care position in ICU requires Acute Care training and 2 years of Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider experience. Position assigned to home campus with occasional float to other ICU campuses. Will work four 13‑hour day and/or 13‑hour night shifts in a 2‑week pay period. ICU Physician presence and/or on‑call availability 24/7. Training provided initially; length based on prior ICU experience.
No new graduate Advanced Practice Providers.
