SURGICAL SERVICES: SURGICAL ASSISTANT

VARIED HOURS PER PAY: 80

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Surgical Assistant (SA) will be responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients based on established standards. The SA will collaborate with the surgeon in performing operative procedures in a safe manner with optimal outcomes for the patient, whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities may be compromised. The SA provides assistance to other healthcare providers such as Registered Nurses, anesthesia staff, surgeons, and other professionals.

Additionally, the Surgical Assistant provides orientation and training to new team members, participates in complex cases, and actively contributes to PI projects. The SA works under the license and direct supervision of the surgeon and is responsible for knowledge and implementation of the mission, vision, and values of Miami Valley Hospital. The SA must maintain continuing education.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education:
  
  Graduation from an accredited school of surgical assisting or completion of a CAAHEP-accredited surgical assistant program.
• Licensure:
  Not applicable.
• Certification:
  Current CPR certification. Certification as a Surgical Assistant from a CAAHEP-accredited program is required.
• Experience:
  
  Two years of clinical experience as a Surgical Assistant is preferred.
• Skills/Other:
  Must be willing to work with acutely ill patients, including emergency situations. Able to work independently and as part of a team. References from collaborating physicians are preferred if available.
