Position: Environmental Staff Scientist (Dayton, OH)

Position Summary:

The Environmental Scientist's primary function is to support environmental assessment, sampling, compliance, and reporting projects under the direction of senior scientists, project managers, and engineers. This position involves fieldwork, data collection, documentation, and technical report support across a range of environmental consulting services.

The role is designed to develop technical competency in environmental site assessments, hazardous materials inspections, sampling procedures, and regulatory compliance.

Cross training with skills in Environmental Science – Natural Resources.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Conduct environmental field investigations under supervision
  • Assist with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
  • Support Phase II ESAs including soil and groundwater sampling
  • Perform asbestos and hazardous materials surveys (as trained/certified)
  • Collect bulk, soil, groundwater, surface wipe, and air samples
  • Collect stormwater or other outfall samples
  • Document field activities using field logs and digital tools
  • Follow chain-of-custody procedures for laboratory submissions
  • Conduct erosion & sediment control inspections (as trained/certified)
  • Conduct stormwater inspections (as trained/certified)
  • Assist with asbestos-containing material (ACM) identification
  • Support lead-based paint inspections and sampling
  • Assist with mold/moisture investigations
  • Support underground storage tank (UST) site reconnaissance
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations
  • Compile field data and laboratory results
  • Assist in preparation of technical reports
  • Prepare tables, figures, and appendices
  • Support cost estimate documentation (as directed)
  • Maintain organized project files and digital records
  • Follow company Health & Safety Plan (HASP)
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Complete required OSHA and environmental safety training
  • Participate in safety meetings and field briefings
Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (B. of B.S.) from four-year college or university
  • 1+ years' experience
  • Advanced technical writing skills
  • A flexible working style with an ability to work independently and within a team
  • Analytical and judgment capabilities
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and Outlook), Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
