Job Summary /Basic Function

Assistant Professor for the Department of Neuroscience, Cell Biology, and Physiology (NCBP) will serve as the BS in Physiology and Neuroscience Program Director and teach several courses at all levels within the BS PN program. The incumbent will also contribute significantly to the development and enhancement of research infrastructure and opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, including establishing a laboratory and delivering cutting‑edge laboratory experiences.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree (documented successful terminal degree completion, but prior to conferral is acceptable).
  • Prior experience in college‑level teaching.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of postdoctoral research experience with demonstrated productivity commensurate with rank.
  • Prior graduate and postdoctoral research in Physiology and Neuroscience disciplines performing a variety of cellular, biochemical, and functional experiments.
  • Prior experience directing laboratory experiences for students.
  • Prior experience teaching Physiology, Anatomy, or Neuroscience to undergraduate students.
Essential Functions and Percent of Time
  • 60% – Lead and collaborate with other faculty members as the director of the BS PN program, develop and direct many major‑based courses, and work across CoSM departments to deliver cutting‑edge research lab course experiences.
  • 10% – Other departmental educational initiatives/activities related to graduate or undergraduate students.
  • 20% – Perform scholarly activity, including establishing a laboratory for BS PN and CoSM MS students.
  • 10% – Participate in and/or serve in leadership roles on committees/task forces within the Department, CoSM, and BSOM.
Working Conditions

Standard office and laboratory conditions. Supervisory roles include supervising all laboratory personnel and, as relevant, teaching assistants. The incumbent will also be responsible for fiscal management of intramural and extramural grants. Employment is contingent on background checks, including criminal record and credit history when job‑related, and compliance with university policies.
