Position Summary

The Specialist II for the Military Family Education Center will serve as a direct resource to military-affiliated students. This individual certifies students for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits, Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA), Ohio National Guard Funding (ONGSP), War Orphan Scholarships and My Career Advancement (MyCAA) funding along with other funding sources. This position also assures compliance with federal, state and college directives in relation to military educational benefits.

The Specialist II will also be responsible in supporting all college regional offices and support for military-affiliated students. This position will assist in running and maintaining Veteran Affair reports as required.

The hourly pay rate for this position is $29.62 and has a maximum of 28 hours per week.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Maintain knowledge of federal/state legislation, rules, policies, and procedures pertaining to military-affiliated student benefits
  • Serve as one of the Certifying Official for Veteran students who have questions regarding VA Educational benefits including how to apply, obtain, and have benefits processed
  • Assist with reports to Veteran Affairs as required
  • Maintain records in conjunction with compliance to federal and state requirements and prepare records for corresponding audits
  • Provide coverage and support to staff, students, and potential students at all Sinclair locations and WPAFB Education office
  • Serve as a military-affiliated student advocate by creating, planning, and conducting programs to assist students with transition to Sinclair and referral to appropriate support services and resources
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business management or related discipline required
  • Minimum of 3 years’ prior work experience in a business office related area required
  • High level of organizational and technological skills to manage and maintain appropriate reporting systems required
  • Knowledge of Datatel software preferred
  • Strong working knowledge in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel and Outlook preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff and communicate effectively with students required
  • Knowledge of local agencies that can assist with military-affiliated student needs other than education, i.e., housing, employment, professional counseling preferred
  • High level of coordination, phone skills, excellent written and oral communication skills required
  • Ability to solve problems, have strong critical thinking skills, and be highly detail oriented required
  • Must have a valid driver license and reliable transportation as this position will travel between all Sinclair College locations as needed
