Para educator – Center-Based
Full‑time, 6.5‑hour/day position (184 days/year).
Responsibilities- Assist in instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center‑based settings.
- Manage behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom).
- Monitor and record student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
- Manage physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.).
- Implement behavioral‑management programs, maintain student data, and work with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Personal Care Assistant certification completed within 30 days of start date.
- Completed 60 semester / 90 quarter credits or associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or passed the Para Educator or Para Pro exam (documentation required).
- Good communication, interpersonal, and record‑keeping skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff, to supervise students, to take direction, and to maintain regular attendance.
- Physical ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform position responsibilities, including toileting, feeding, self‑care procedures, behavioral management, data functions, materials handling, and people functions.
- Must be physically working in the building.
$20.00–$25.30 per hour (doq with K‑12 experience) $21.15–$26.45 per hour (doq with K‑12 experience and AA/AAS degree or 60 semester/90 quarter credits) $22.00–$27.30 per hour (doq with K‑12 experience and BA degree).
Special‑Ed Paras serving center‑based students and classrooms 50% or more of their time receive an additional $0.50 per hour.
Special‑Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program or River Trail Learning Center receive an additional $1.00 per hour.
