Job Summary

#CA-PS Under general direction, provide journey‑level high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage trade skills in areas of construction, renovation & maintenance, mechanical/electrical operations, and preventative maintenance.

• Possess a certificate of completion from a recognized union apprenticeship program, university apprenticeship program, accredited trade school or have the equivalent amount of experience and training comparable to a journey level craftsperson in the high voltage and medium voltage electrical trade. (Non‑certified applicants will have their training and experience evaluated by a Credentials Committee of Facilities Services Management team to determine journey level status).
• Possess or attain a Class A California Driver’s License within 6 months from date of hire.
• Required to hold a valid California driver’s license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
• See above minimum certification qualifications for education requirements.
• Journey level knowledge and experience in the medium and high voltage electrical trade and related practices to perform assigned duties without direct supervision.
• Skill to fabricate, maintain, service, repair, replace, install, and/or alter medium and high voltage electrical equipment and other campus systems related to craft.
• Skill to inspect and perform preventive maintenance program on electrical trade equipment and other campus systems.

The High Voltage unit is responsible for maintenance, construction, repair, and operation of the medium and high voltage electrical systems, including transformers, isolation switches, circuit interrupters, reclosers, overhead and underground distribution facilities, and the high voltage substations.
