Overview
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the veterinary clinical research coordinator will assist in directing the work of a medium-sized laboratory and will undertake research projects in collaboration with academic supervisors, making innovative contributions pertaining to laboratory and/or field experimental procedures which may not change the course of an investigation but do indicate a significant independent contribution beyond the journey level.
- Bachelors degree in Comparative Pathobiology, Animal Biology, Animal Behavior, Animal welfare or a related field.
- Experience with veterinary clinical research conduct.
- Six-plus years of experience conducting research studies with companion animals, including experience with behavior & welfare studies and clinical trials research.
- Experience supervising undergraduate research assistants and mentoring graduate students and post-doctoral researchers.
- Ability to conduct research studies from start to finish with minimum supervision including study design of both clinical trials and survey-based research; preparation and submission of ethical review materials (e.g., IRB, IACUC, consent forms); collection, cleaning and statistical analysis of data; writing and editing scientific manuscripts and preparing and presenting results to key audiences.
- Written and oral communication skills to effectively coordinate and execute complex research logistics and activities involving diverse groups and individuals such as animal owners, scientists, veterinarians, and various hospital staff.
- Demonstrated computer skills including document creation and tracked editing, database creation, data entry, designing surveys using Qualtrics and Google Forms, coding behavioral videos using software such as BORIS or Noldus Observer, and analysis of data using software such as R Studio and Jamovi.
- Ability to pay strict attention to detail and follow detailed protocols. Organizational skills to prioritize daily workload, ensure timely completion of diagnostic reports and medical records, and to ensure completion of multiple research projects.
- Certificate in Applied Animal Behavior.
- Master's degree in Comparative Pathobiology, Animal Biology, Animal Behavior, Animal welfare or a related field.
- Experience communicating with animal owners about veterinary care.
- Experience working in the veterinary field, such as in a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant role, including experience with canine and feline venipuncture for blood sampling.
- Able to assist with writing and applying for grants.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, reporting requirements, record keeping, and disposal of chemicals.

The research coordinator plays a critical role in planning and conducting veterinary clinical research by making significant innovative contributions pertaining to research methodology and execution, and by planning and assigning the work of other lab members. This position helps organize clinical and translational studies.
