Job Description
We are currently seeking an Archaeologist with a M.A. or M.S. in Anthropology with a focus on Osteology, Bioarchaeology, or Zoo archaeology, for part-time contract employment for upcoming fieldwork on federal contracts in Southern California. The work will be based out of our offices in Davis or Sausalito, California; but will mobilize from San Diego and Ventura, California. The salary range for this position is $30.00/hour - $34.00/hour (or higher depending on qualifications) plus a Health and Welfare premium of $5.36/hour.

Qualifications- A Master’s degree or higher in anthropology/archaeology, with a focus in Osteology, Bioarchaeology, or Zoo archaeology.
- Preferred experience identifying fragmented human remains.
- An accredited field school or commensurate California or Nevada CRM field experience (e.g., survey, precontact and historic‑era site identification/documentation/data collection, excavation, and familiarity with standard electronic devices and hand‑held tools).
- We are willing to provide training in archaeological field methodology and resource identification if the individual has sufficient experience in human and/or faunal identification.
- Ability to hike up to ten miles a day for up to 10 consecutive days in rugged terrain and variable weather.
- Detail‑oriented, able to adapt to varying data collection needs, attention to field methods/pace, and effective verbal and written communication.
- Willingness to learn/refine new skills on‑the‑job.
- Ability to collaboratively interact with clients, Native American representatives, and co‑workers.
- Can comply with Far Western’s Safety Program and other Far Western training and operations protocols.
- Current First Aid/CPR training/certifications.
- Basic compass, map, GPS navigation skills.
- Experience working outdoors in variable weather conditions and different types of environments.
- Has a current driver’s license and can operate a 4WD vehicle in varying terrain.
