The Griffith Lab within the Department of Physiology & Membrane Biology at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting for one full‑time Junior Specialist. The appointee will devote 90% of the time to research, 5% to professional competence, and 5% to service. This is a short‑term appointment, up to two years.
Major responsibilities and designated areas of expertise:
Work closely with Principal Investigator Dr. Theanne Griffith to develop research goals and objectives, carry out experiments, analyze data, and produce publications. Experimental procedures include transgenic mouse management, genotyping, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, primary neuronal cultures of sensory neurons, dissections, mouse behavior, and calcium imaging. Present at weekly meetings, lead journal club discussions, and provide mentorship to junior colleagues.
Attend conferences, regional and national seminars, journal clubs, and participate in the Society for Neuroscience.
Mentor and/or supervise junior lab members and participate in laboratory and group meetings.
- Bachelor's Degree in Neurobiology, Physiology, Behavior, or a related field.
- Minimum 1 year of laboratory research experience (no more than 2 years post‑bachelor).
- Research experience in sensory neuroscience.
- Experience with immunohistochemistry, tissue sectioning, and confocal imaging.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and make critical decisions.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in spinal cord anatomy analysis.
- Prior experience in ion channel research.
- Strong academic record.
- Demonstrated ability to multi‑task.
