Job Summary

The Senior Lean Six Sigma & Continuous Improvement Consultant serves as a strategic leader and facilitator for Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and continuous improvement initiatives within a complex organizational environment. The incumbent advances operational excellence, stewardship, and service delivery, leading enterprise-wide process improvement using the LSS DMAIC framework. The role combines project leadership, strategic consulting, training, and capability development to drive sustainable change and performance.

Hybrid

Work Location
  • Primarily remote, with scheduled on-site presence for stakeholder engagement and training sessions
  • Training sessions typically occur once every six weeks and are planned well in advance
  • On-site presence is expected approximately two days per month, scheduled in advance
  • A workstation is available for collaboration on core on-site days (e.g., Tuesdays)
  • Regular on-site attendance beyond scheduled activities is not required

Estimated Allocation of Responsibilities
  • Process Improvement Project Leadership – 60%
  • Training & Capability Development – 25%
  • Consulting, Mentoring, and Green Belt Support – 15%
Key Responsibilities Process Improvement Project Leadership
  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional process improvement projects through all DMAIC phases
  • Apply advanced LSS methodologies (Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, 5S, Kaizen)
  • Collaborate with leaders and teams to analyze complex processes and implement sustainable solutions
  • Ensure control plans and accountability measures post-implementation
  • Projects may span administrative services, finance, HR, or research functions
Training & Capability Development
  • Design, deliver, and continuously enhance Lean Six Sigma curricula (Yellow Belt, Root Cause Analysis, Value Stream Mapping, 5S training)
  • Develop learning materials, job aids, and practical tools to support operational application of Lean principles
  • Measure training outcomes and project results
  • Contribute to scalable learning pathways for sustained continuous improvement capability
Consulting, Mentoring, Community of Practice & Green Belt Support
  • Facilitate forums to share best practices, tools, and lessons learned
  • Foster collaboration across departments and units; build a network of Lean practitioners
  • Coach and mentor Lean Six Sigma Green Belt candidates and project teams
  • Provide advisory support for improvement initiatives
Technical & Digital Enablement
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to monitor performance (advanced Smartsheet proficiency required)
  • Leverage digital and AI-enabled tools for process mapping, data analysis, and documentation
  • Identify automation and AI opportunities in continuous improvement
Position Information
  • Appointment Type: 1-year contract
  • Percentage of Time: 100% (Monday–Friday)
  • Hybrid location (remote/on-site mix)

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years leading process improvement in a complex or matrixed environment
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification with demonstrated application of DMAIC, Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, and process reengineering
  • Experience translating strategic objectives into operational improvement strategies
  • Organizational change management expertise (stakeholder engagement, behavior adoption, long-term sustainment)
  • Experience developing and delivering Lean Six Sigma training and mentoring
  • Working knowledge of core administrative functions (e.g., finance, HR, payroll, research administration)
  • Advanced proficiency with Smartsheet (databases, dashboards, reporting, workflows)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Visio)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Business analyst/process analyst experience in an academic or large organizational environment
