Position: Associate Vice Chancellor, Housing, Dining, Divisional Operations and Technology (ADMIN MGR 4)

Associate Vice Chancellor Overview

The Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) reports directly to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and acts for the Vice Chancellor in their absence. The incumbent participates in the development of division‑wide policy through membership on the Vice Chancellor's Council. Campus‑wide and University‑wide coordinating, policy development, and liaison responsibilities include membership on a variety of standing committees and boards. The AVC is responsible for budget planning and oversight, human resources, administrative and auxiliary operations, capital, and strategic planning for Student Housing, Dining Services, Divisional Operations and Information Technology.

The AVC directs multiple subordinate managers to ensure the success of complex, critical and essential services and programs that serve the entire UC Davis campus. The AVC represents the Vice Chancellor and UC Davis to faculty, staff, students, UCOP, Regents, UC campuses and the City of Davis.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, education, or any other related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • At least 10 years of progressive management experience in student housing within a comparably sized and complex higher education institution.
  • Progressively responsible experience in fiscal management, human resource management, residential education, policy development, strategic planning and capital planning.
  • Experience with student‑centered service operations, residential and student‑union focused programs for diverse audiences.
  • Strategic planning experience within Student Affairs or a similar type of organization at an institution of similar scale and complexity.
  • Demonstrable experience leading cross‑divisional initiatives while maintaining effective partnerships across university departments.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a variety of diverse audiences and constituencies.
  • Evidence of strong leadership, conflict resolution and supervisory skills to support development and engagement of staff, student employees and student leaders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree, PhD, Ed.D. or other advanced degree preferred
  • Ability to solicit constructive input from and develop eventual consensus among groups and constituencies with differing priorities and perspectives; strong background in facilitating and cultivating collaborations among campus groups and departments.
  • Proven experience in organization‑wide talent development across multiple departments.
  • Proven experience supervising and developing senior‑level leaders, including executive directors and directors offering coaching, mentorship, and strategic direction to promote excellence and cross‑departmental collaboration.
  • Proven experience as a strategic information technology partner.
  • Experience leading or contributing to university housing master planning, or managing large‑scale residential construction and renovation projects.
  • Progressive experience with auxiliary enterprise models, including developing new revenue streams and resources.
  • Executive‑level leadership in housing operations, facilities management, capital improvement planning, campus planning, construction, renovation, and deferred maintenance.
  • Strong proficiency in policy development, risk management, and compliance with applicable campus, UC system, local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., information security policies, ADA, Clery, Title IX, OSHA).
