Position: LIMS Manager (BUS SYS ANL 3)

Job Summary

The Business Systems Analyst 3 (LIMS Manager) manages all aspects of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and financial system components for the California Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) lab at UC Davis. The role applies technical expertise and business analysis concepts to evaluate, develop, and support complex LIMS and financial operations. The incumbent coordinates system updates, ensures documentation accuracy, validates system integration, implements, and provides training to staff.

The LIMS Manager works independently and collaboratively to address system, business process, and financial compliance challenges, optimize workflows, and ensure regulatory adherence.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid California driver’s license or enrollment in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Laboratory Science, Business Administration) or equivalent experience/training.
  • 3+ years of experience managing, configuring, and supporting LIMS, financial tracking systems, or other laboratory/business systems.
  • Experience analyzing and documenting complex business processes, system requirements, and user needs, resolving workflow issues, and implementing technical solutions; experience developing and delivering training materials for end users.
  • Experience setting priorities, delegating tasks, and making sound decisions independently; initiative and efficient problem solving.
  • Strong understanding of LIMS functionality, financial workflows, and integration between IT systems; proficiency in documenting system requirements, workflows, and user procedures.
  • Knowledge of business process analysis, system implementation, and IT best practices; effective communication skills to convey technical and financial concepts to non‑technical users.
  • Project management skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team; manage complex multi‑task projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Skills and ability to independently research and recommend solutions to complex problems and issues.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience working with financial systems, compliance requirements, and audit processes in an academic, clinical, or research setting.
    • Demonstrated experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders and resolving competing priorities.
    • Experience with SQL, scripting, or basic programming for data analysis or system customization.
    • Skilled in negotiation, conflict resolution, and consensus‑building among stakeholders.
    • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies for system development and enhancement.
    • Knowledge of enterprise software integration and data management strategies.

    The School of Veterinary Medicine Information Technology group (SVM‑IT) provides comprehensive information and educational technology services to the faculty, students, and staff of the School of Veterinary Medicine, the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH), and the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS). SVM‑IT provides services in Operations, Application Development, and Project Management to support the Clinical/Lab Systems, Academic/Research Systems, and Administrative Systems of the SVM.

    The California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS) is a vital component of California's efforts to protect the health of its livestock and poultry industries. CAHFS provides comprehensive diagnostic laboratory services aimed at disease control, animal health management, and protection from zoonotic diseases. Operating four branch laboratories in Davis, Turlock, Tulare, and San Bernardino, CAHFS plays a key role in the state's animal disease warning system through its surveillance programs.
