Schedule: Full Time;
Monday – Friday (8am–5pm)

Location: Davis, CA

Pay Range: $27.42 to $33.51 hourly

Job Summary /Overview

The Medical Assistant is part of the Perinatal department and works with the medical services staff to assist with medical visits and provide initial patient intake. The Medical Assistant works as part of a multidisciplinary team composed of the clinic services coordinator, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and community health workers educators to provide comprehensive care to a primarily low income, non-English speaking population.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Perform phlebotomy and basic laboratory duties as needed.
  • Provide age-appropriate care to the clients of the clinic and interpret information related to age-related needs.
  • Coordinate care for perinatal patients including scheduling appointments, referrals to specialists and labs, tracking attendance to referrals, and coordinating outpatient/inpatient continuity of care.
  • Assist clinicians with tracking high-risk patients and abnormal test results; schedule care transfers, hospital admissions, and referrals as directed by the midwife; monitor referrals to available resources (e.g., childbirth classes, WIC, Substance Abuse Treatment, Social Services, Dental, nutritionist).
  • Communicate effectively with Medi-Cal, Partnership and other insurers to assist clients with obtaining health care coverage and resolving insurance issues.
  • Adhere to CPSP guidelines to ensure health education, nutrition and psychosocial care services are offered and a plan of care is developed and followed up for each client.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality services through thorough patient chart preparation, including lab, ultrasound, and medical reports; chart order; routing slip completion; lab referrals and scheduling for health education, nutrition and social worker as needed.
