Under the direction of the Small Animal Surgical Services/Anesthesia manager, the Orthopedic Surgery Supervisor and the Advanced Veterinary Surgery Center (AVSC) supervisor, facilitate the scheduling of Orthopedic Surgery patients and manage patient care and client communication within the Orthopedic Surgery Service. Rotate between the VMTH and AVSC. Work cooperatively with others to foster strong team commitments toward achieving Surgery services objectives.
Job SummaryResponsible for ensuring patient care standards for hospitalized patients, preparing patients for surgery, participating in surgeries as a surgical assistant, circulating in the operating room, and providing anesthesia support including induction, monitoring, and post‑surgical recovery. Client communication and education, including patient admissions and discharges.
Qualifications- Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) License or obtain within 3 months from hire date.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Experience with animal restraint, venipuncture, and placing vascular and urinary catheters.
- Proficient in administering and maintaining anesthesia and overseeing recovery.
- Experience calculating and administering medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscular or orally.
- Proficient in identifying and navigating challenging situations with tact and professionalism.
- Experience handling complications of various surgical procedures and anticipating quick responses.
- Skill to maintain flexibility in a fast‑paced environment.
- Skill to aseptically scrub, gown, and glove.
- Skill to work cooperatively with others to foster strong team commitments toward achieving Surgery services objectives.

- Exposure to zoonotic diseases, anesthesia, cleaning chemicals and radioactive patients.
- Work with or around sick animals, hazardous materials, and infectious diseases.
- No eating or drinking in surgery or treatment rooms.
- Must enroll in the DMV pull notice system.

- Background check required; clear criminal background, drug screening, medical evaluation clearance and functional capacity assessment.
