Associate Dean for Professional Education

Salary range: $240,000 – $340,000

The University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine seeks a strategic leader to serve as Associate Dean for Professional Education. As a national leader in veterinary medicine with a mission to advance the health of animals, people, and the environment, the School has a rich history of educating veterinarians and veterinary scientists, discovering new knowledge through a robust and progressive research enterprise, and setting the standards in animal health care through its clinical programs.

With a class size of 155 students, the School offers the highest quality veterinary education. Reporting directly to the Dean and serving on the senior leadership team, the Associate Dean for Professional Education plays a vital role in managing the DVM curriculum, providing administrative support to students, faculty, and staff for the development and delivery of the curriculum, and overseeing the educational facilities and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative leadership and oversight for the Office of Professional Education and its staff across multiple locations.
  • Manage and support the professional DVM curriculum to ensure innovation, quality, and accreditation compliance.
  • Work with and support key committees including the Curriculum Committee, Clinical Education Committee, and Student Affairs Committee.
  • Oversee student academic progress, professional development, and welfare in collaboration with faculty and the Director of Clinical Education.
  • Develop and manage the annual operational and instructional budgets, aligning resources with strategic educational goals.
  • Promote the School’s DVM program through internal, external, and outreach activities.
  • Ensure an inclusive and welcoming environment for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Support faculty in delivering high‑quality instruction through onboarding, training, and provision of teaching resources and facilities.
  • Provide student learning support including academic counseling, accommodations, crisis management, and graduation processes.
  • Oversee educational facilities, ensuring they are well maintained and technologically equipped for teaching needs.
  • Lead outcomes assessment and data management to evaluate curriculum effectiveness and student performance.
  • Engage in professional growth, teaching, university service, and participation in professional organizations.
Qualifications
  • Hold a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree and have a distinguished record in teaching, research, service, and administration, meeting the requirements for a professorial appointment at Associate or Full rank at UC.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to engage a diverse array of individuals, groups, and organizations.
  • Experience in managing programs in a university setting.
  • Experience with contemporary veterinary medical education and clinical experiential training of professional (DVM) students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work closely with faculty in an environment of shared governance, sensitivity to changing dynamics of academic veterinary medicine, and conflict resolution and team building experience.

  • Preferred qualifications:

    a degree in education and/or advanced clinical training/board certification in a clinical specialty.
