Overview
Shift: Monday-Friday; 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (nights/weekends as needed)
Are you passionate about prevention, community health, and creating lasting change? We are seeking a Substance Use Disorder Prevention Specialist to play a vital role in building healthier, substance-free communities across designated counties.
In this role, you will lead meaningful prevention efforts that empower individuals, families, and communities to make healthy choices. You’ll use evidence-based strategies, collaborate with community partners, and help shape positive social norms through education, outreach, and policy-focused initiatives.
ResponsibilitiesPut into action prevention goals and strategies through the delivery of evidence-based interventions that support healthy, substance-free lifestyles.
Ensure program fidelity while allowing for thoughtful adaptation, meeting the needs of diverse populations and community settings.
Provide initial and ongoing program development informed by assessment findings and continuous evaluation.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with program participants, students, parents, community members, external partners, and internal staff.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of prevention programs, activities, and outcomes in accordance with program requirements.
Plan, coordinate, and facilitate engaging, drug-free alternative activities that promote positive social connection and healthy choices.
Deliver clear, accurate, and age-appropriate education on alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs to support informed decision-making.
Education:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field.
Experience:
- Experience with education or related human service activities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities and skills in substance abuse prevention.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
- Prevention Specialist Certification through the State of Iowa within the first 18 months of employment.
- May be required to obtain BLS within six months of hire for certain sites.
