Job Description

By carefully supporting donors, the Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) reports to the Plasma Center Manager and works under the guidance of the Center Manager and Center Physician. The role requires commitment to customer service and quality and familiarity with plasma collection regulations.

About the role

You will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist follows guidance from Bio Life Medical Affairs and provides center-level support for environmental, health and safety (EHS).

How you will contribute
  • Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self‑exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and review of serological protein electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions and follow SOPs for medical emergencies, develop Center Physician standing orders, and coordinate donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for findings and medical or technical guidance, including donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine further evaluation by occupational health/ER, following EHS guidance.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations of pandemic threats in the local community.
What you bring to Takeda
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or graduate equivalent of a recognized nursing program with state requirements.
  • Current license or certification in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: RN, NP or PA.
  • Current CPR and AED certification.
  • Fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy.
  • Completion of FDA‑approved training requirements for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Compensation and Benefits Summary

Location:

USA – IA – Davenport
U.S. Hourly Wage Range: $23.85 – $32.79
Compensation depends on qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location, and complies with state and local minimum wage requirements.
Benefits include short‑term incentives, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, disability coverage, basic life insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, well‑being benefits, sick time (up to 80 hours per year), and vacation (up to 120 hours for new hires).
