Job Title:
General Utility Worker
The General Utility position is an entry-level production role that encompasses a variety of duties within the production area. Employees are expected to contribute to production operations by adhering to policies and procedures for meat processing, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations. This role involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in all production areas, disposing of inedible products appropriately, and assisting with equipment preparation and sanitation.
Responsibilities- Maintain all production areas in clean and sanitary conditions.
- Communicate any issues leading to unsanitary conditions promptly.
- Remove product and packing materials from the floor.
- Properly dispose of and track inedible products.
- Separate and remove trash and recycling from production areas.
- Stage production area with empty containers for the following shift.
- Assist with preparing and disassembling equipment for meat processing or sanitation.
- Assist in the collection, opening, and reuse of rework, ensuring proper identification to eliminate cross-contamination and allergen concerns.
- Assist in relieving co-workers for breaks, which may mean assisting in another position.
- Accurately complete assigned paperwork.
- Assist in training new employees accurately.
- Check in with area supervisors before leaving at the end of the shift for additional tasks.
- Perform visual inspections of cases to ensure proper labeling and legible code dates.
- Make required adjustments to machinery for smooth production, including changing tape, code dates, ink, paper, film, cardboard, or pallets.
- Operate a manual hand jack as needed.
- Communicate all equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.
- Prepare supplies and workstation for the next shift.
- Stage ingredients in 50lb containers to maintain product flow.
- Arrange meat as instructed and per specification.
- Comb, hang, transport, and stack product continuously.
- Inspect for quality specifications of product on a conveyor belt.
- Dependable and detail-oriented.
- Ability to follow directions and work under minimal supervision.
- Effective and clear communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Willingness to work weekends and overtime as required.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment safely.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in production, general labor, or food manufacturing is beneficial.
- Previous experience with companies like Kraft, Tyson, or Hill & Valley is advantageous.

Work EnvironmentThis role operates in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The work environment includes colder (30 degrees) and/or warmer temperature areas, and the noise level is usually high. The job requires standing and walking throughout the shift, lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 lbs., and using both hands for various tasks.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Davenport, IA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 – $18.00/hr.
