Position Summary
Responsible for maintenance and operation of the ammonia refrigeration system, with additional responsibilities for HVAC, boiler systems, hot water generators, compressed air systems, sprinkler systems, and supporting equipment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain ammonia refrigeration system and related equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, vessels, valves, and other machinery.
- Collate and work with refrigeration contractors, electricians, and pipe fitters to ensure compliance with safety policies and work standards.
- Execute duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager, Supervisor or Engineering.
- Ensure continuous operation of all facility utility systems to support production schedule.
- Coordinate internal and external resources for facility maintenance.
- Assist with record‑keeping and training for Process Safety Management/Risk plans to meet state and federal guidelines.
- Provide technical analysis and real‑time data on refrigeration and operational equipment status.
- Ensure ammonia compressors operate safely and efficiently to reduce energy consumption.
- Carry out preventive maintenance to keep equipment in good working condition.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and plumbing issues.
- Utilize drawings, technical records, and vendor diagrams to complete preventive maintenance documentation.
- Handle maintenance emergencies as required.
- Adhere to quality assurance, Good Manufacturing Practices, safety, and other company programs and procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Report potential contamination or suspicious activity to supervisor immediately.
- Other duties as defined.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years experience in mechanical/refrigeration/utilities in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- At least 3 years working with ammonia refrigeration.
- Working knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems; GCAP Ammonia Technician Certification preferred.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ammonia refrigeration certification preferred.
- Certificate in HVAC preferred.
- PSM training preferred.
- Knowledge of equipment set‑up, functions, operating procedures, and preventive maintenance techniques.
- Experience in a maintenance department, preferably in an automated food processing plant.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, CMMS, and L2L.
- Must bring own hand tools.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing demands.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Availability to cover other days and weekends as needed.
- Capability to climb ladders and work on aerial work platforms.
- Capacity to work in all types of conditions, including cold in winter and hot in summer.
- Ability to read and interpret P&.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work is performed in a manufacturing and office environment with moderate noise levels. Must be able to lift 50 lbs and be proficient in Word and Excel and have knowledge of computers.
