Position Summary

This position is accountable for developing, organizing, administering, and maintaining the plant safety program, whose purpose is to minimize the number and reduce the severity of in-plant accidents and injuries while maintaining the efficiency of the Plant. In addition, responsible for the day-to-day contact and guidance of the security force for the physical security of the facility and its assets, in accordance with company and government regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Acts as the Plant’s authority in all areas of safety and security in the absence of the EHS Manager.
  • Initiate and develop policies and procedures that address all key safety and security issues and concern through the Plant.
  • Follows up on corrective actions of potential safety problems by reviewing reports from supervisory and management personnel and assisting in the corrective action process when necessary.
  • Audits work practices to ensure that safety-related policies and procedures are being followed by employees and enforced by management.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Plant, OSHA, parent company, and insurance carrier representative in order to ensure that the Plant complies with their requirements.
  • Ensures a proactive approach to accident prevention by training and advising management on all safety issues.
  • Presides at the monthly Safety Committee meeting.
  • Reviews accident and incidents occurring to employees.
  • Carefully analyze reports from accident investigations to ascertain causes.
Qualifications
  • Preferably a Bachelor degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field.
  • At least one year of previous experience.
  • Prior experience in a food manufacturing environment desired
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

  • Adaptability—the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance.
  • Safety and security—the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures, and uses equipment and materials properly.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is performed in a manufacturing and office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. Must be able to lift 50lb and must have knowledge of computers and be proficient in word and Excel.
