Job Description & How to Apply Below

In partnership with the Engineering Project Lead and the COO, and under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer, the Electromechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for the effective assessment, design, development, testing, certification, and manufacturing of the company’s electromechanical product portfolio. This includes mechanical enclosures, analog electrical circuits, and embedded digital hardware/firmware.

The Manager oversees the personnel executing mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems projects and collaborates with the Project Lead to drive delivery timelines. This role requires a "player-coach" approach, providing hands-on contributions as a Senior Engineer while owning the success of new product certifications and quality procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as the senior technical resource across the electromechanical product portfolio. Act as a subject matter expert to solve complex design, support, or testing challenges. Implement policies to ensure designs are optimized for performance, reliability, cost-efficiency, and manufacturability.
  • Engineering Management: Provide direct, in-person management for the electromechanical engineering team. Conduct performance reviews, drive professional development, and oversee sprint-based work output. Lead recruitment and retention efforts to expand the engineering talent pool.
  • Certification & Regulatory Management: Establish the processes and relationships necessary to obtain and maintain global product certifications (e.g., UL, ISO, EX, SIL, CSA, FCC). Manage regulatory files, stay current on changing requirements, and oversee external certification consultants.
  • Contractor Management: Manage third-party contract engineering labor required to support internal design, development, testing, or manufacturing capabilities.
  • Design Quality & Documentation: Conduct regular design reviews to ensure cost-effective, high-performance, and certifiable results. Partner with Operations to manage PDM and documentation systems, ensuring seamless integration with the ERP for manufacturing.
  • Intellectual Property: Work with the CTO and legal counsel to strategically manage the patent portfolio. Proactively identify patentable innovations during the design stage and spearhead protections to safeguard future products.
  • Budget Oversight: Collaborate with the CTO and Finance to develop and manage the yearly engineering department budget, ensuring accurate tracking of labor and material expenditures by project.
Qualifications Required Education & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience: 10+ years of product engineering experience involving the design and manufacturing of physical products.
  • Project Management: 3+ years of experience in project management (scope, budgeting, resource planning, and risk assessment).
  • Leadership: 3+ years of direct engineering personnel management experience.
  • Compliance: Direct exposure to UL, CSA, CE, ISO, SIL, or similar product certification processes.
Technical Skills
  • Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Visio/Project) and Agile/Waterfall methodologies.
  • Design Tools: Proficient in CAD programs such as Altium or Solid Works.
  • Laboratory: Hands-on proficiency with debugging tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.).
  • Manufacturing: Deep understanding of assembly processes, embedded systems, and the interaction between hardware and firmware.
  • Math/Reasoning: Strong ability to apply mathematical concepts (probability, statistical inference, ratios) to practical engineering situations.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Physical: Frequently required to sit, talk, and handle technical components. Must be able to stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities (color, depth perception, close focus) are required for technical design work.
  • Environment: Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock in a moderate-noise environment.
  • Travel: Ability to travel as required for industry events, trade shows, and off-site product testing/certification.
