Job DescriptionCurrent paras use the internal application process to apply. All other current district employees (not paras), or external applicants apply online by completing the external application.
WagesWAGES: $18.14 for new hires;
Entry level rate $14.53/hr for current employees in the bargaining unit. This special education position meets the $4.00 Special Education Differential pay as outlined in the Memorandum of Agreement between DCSD and the Davenport Association of Para Educators.
- Provide research based social skills instruction and intervention under supervision of a certified teacher.
- Must be willing to attend any additional required evening trainings or meetings during the school year or during the summer.
- Must be willing to accept feedback from specialists and the special education facilitator regarding implementation and use of feedback to adjust instruction.
- Must follow directives of the classroom teacher, building administration, and district administration.
- Must be willing and able to work with students who are explosive in nature and may exhibit physical and verbal aggression towards others.
- Work with students with learning, behavior, physical, and/or cognitive disabilities (including students diagnosed with Autism and Spectrum Disorder).
- Provide services for special education students as needed in the special or general education setting.
- Under the direction of the special education teacher, provide academic assistance, behavior interventions, and instruction of social skills and daily living skills.
- Attend field trips with students as necessary.
- Regular attendance is required to meet IEP services and ensure FAPE.
- Ability to analyze situations and respond appropriately; interact well with students and staff; be a team player; accompany students to and from the bus; supervise students in classroom, at lunch, on field trips, and at work sites.
- Work individually with one student or a small group as assigned; assist with restroom needs, changing clothes and other hygiene needs as appropriate; support physical education as needed.
- Ability to work with one or more students on classroom assignments and, when directed, accompany them to general education classes and assist as needed per IEP.
- Ability to manage the environment and protect students during the school day; follow multiple behavior plans and implement changes as directed.
- Remain flexible with daily assignments; demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and rapport with culturally diverse students; support MTSS for behavior and academics.
- All Para Educators receiving the Special Education differential pay will sign the vacancy notice acknowledging duties and expectations; pass Medicaid Fraud background checks as required.
- Ability to physically restrain students if trained and as directed by building principals; assignments may change daily to meet individual or group needs.
- Remain calm and respectful when students are in crisis; engage in collaborative team planning; participate in extensive physical activities as needed; may require lifting and toileting/hygiene supervision.
- Position may include riding the bus with students and extended standing or sitting; model a positive attitude and teamwork; accept direction from certified staff; maintain confidentiality; may require other duties as assigned by administration.
