About Our Opportunity

As the Program Lead, you will be responsible for providing advanced specialized program administrative and technical expertise for the Power Engineering Program that impacts the province, as well as leading projects and initiatives, within the mandate of the department.
The Program Lead, Power Engineering supports a team of technical safety professionals. They are responsible to set the health and technical safety rules and promote, verify and enforce compliance with the Province’s Technical Safety Act, regulations and safety standards for boiler and pressure equipment, power engineering, registered plants, fuel systems and cranes.
The Program Lead works collaboratively across government and with various stakeholders and sectors to build collaborative relationships. The Program Lead will offer sound advice and information on technical issues, emerging trends and regulation and code updates. This may include leading jurisdictional scans, statistical research, stakeholder consultations and in-depth analysis. This work will result in the preparation of briefing notes, presentations and recommendations.
The Program Lead will also represent the department on various provincial, national and international technical and association committees. As the provincial representative, the Program Lead will be accountable in communicating this work both vertically and horizontally and preparing recommendation plans for implementation.
You may:
Provide input to the technical development of the relevant ASME and CSA codes and standards.
As the Program Lead, you will work under the general supervision of the Manager, Boiler & Pressure Equipment and Fuel Safety Section of the Technical Safety Division.

Qualifications and Experience

Relevant trade or technical training includes:

  • Bachelor’s degree + 6 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • A Stationary (Power) Engineering Second Class Certificate or higher
  • Technical knowledge in Boiler and Pressure Vessel and Power Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and manage risks
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in policy and program development
  • Experience interpreting regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Experience working with diverse groups and their representatives

Assets

  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Degree education or significant experience in a relevant industry (fuel, pressure equipment, boilers, power engineering)
  • Engineering degree and/or experience

You have knowledge and experience in the use of non-destructive testing equipment and methodologies.

  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal);
  • Computer skills including management of electronic files;
