Certified Nursing Assistant / Special Education Aide
Job GoalThe Certified Nursing Assistant is to assist professional nursing personnel in providing quality, compassionate care for students and assist Early Childhood Special Education Classroom in the implementation of the instructional program for students with disabilities.
Reports ToClassroom Teacher/District Nurse/Building Principal
QualificationsDemonstrates the ability to work effectively with special education students and staff. Meets Illinois State Board requirements for teacher aides. Graduate of an approved CNA Program with a current licensed practical nurse licensure in IL. Current first-aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation program completion. Experience in nursing preferred.
Essential Functions- Maintain an awareness of each student's individuality and respond in a manner conveying dignity and respect.
- Assist the classroom teacher in developing, organizing, preparing, and implementing instructional materials.
- Support individual students through hands‑on demonstrations and coaching in classrooms, under the direction of the classroom teacher and educational team.
- Provide assistance in implementing behavior management plans in the classroom, community, and work environments, under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Model positive / communication‑based behavioral approaches, as directed by the educational team.
- Assist the classroom teacher in meeting students' daily care needs (toileting, grooming, diapering, feeding, positioning, transferring, etc.).
- Assist district educational teams in structuring school environments to enable inclusive educational activities for their students.
- Assist classroom staff in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment for all students.
- This position requires the ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
- Assist the classroom staff in data collection by observing and recording information on student progress and sharing information with the team.
- With guidance from the classroom teacher in skillfully performing assigned duties, serve as a professional role model for aides and para educators.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher/supervisor to promote the overall instructional program.
- Maintain student confidentiality.
- To perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by employee's supervisor, the principal, or the superintendent.
Ten‑months.
Hourly during student school day (6.75 hours per day).
Starting rate of $17.64 per hour.
