Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and Repairs
    • Oversee routine maintenance and emergency repairs for hotel equipment, systems, and infrastructure (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, and elevators).
    • Perform or supervise preventive maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and extend the life of equipment.
  • Facility Operations
    • Ensure all hotel facilities, including guest rooms, public areas, and back‑of‑house spaces, are in excellent condition.
    • Maintain compliance with brand standards for property upkeep and appearance.
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including fire safety and building codes.
    • Perform regular safety inspections and maintain records of certifications and inspections.
  • Energy Management
    • Monitor and manage energy consumption to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Implement energy‑saving initiatives and sustainable practices.
  • Budgeting and Procurement
    • Manage the department’s budget for maintenance, repairs, and supplies.
    • Source and negotiate with vendors for equipment, parts, and service contracts.
  • Crisis Management
    • Respond to and resolve emergencies such as power outages, plumbing failures, or HVAC issues to minimize guest impact.
    • Develop and implement contingency plans for major breakdowns or disasters.
  • Collaboration with Other Departments
    • Work closely with housekeeping, front desk, and food & beverage teams to address maintenance needs promptly and support guest satisfaction.
    • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs or large‑scale projects.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintain detailed records of maintenance schedules, repairs, and expenses.
    • Report regularly to the General Manager or ownership on maintenance activities, issues, and improvements.
What We are Looking for in a Hotel Guest Chief Engineer or Hotel Maintenance
  • Building Systems Expertise:
    In-depth knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems, as well as elevators and fire safety equipment.
  • Preventive Maintenance:
    Skills in developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules for long‑term efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair:
    Ability to diagnose and repair issues promptly across a variety of hotel systems.
  • Energy Management:
    Understanding energy‑efficient practices and systems to reduce costs and improve sustainability.
  • Technical

    Certifications:

    Certifications like HVAC Technician, Electrician License, or OSHA safety training are often required or preferred.
  • Crisis Management:
    Quick thinking and calm under pressure when responding to emergencies like system breakdowns or safety hazards.
