Staff Accountant

First Four Staffing is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our client, a large real estate company on the Eastern Shore. This role supports the financial operations of Single-Family Development projects and works closely with development, construction, and leadership teams to ensure accurate reporting, effective job cost tracking, and compliance with GAAP and internal controls.

This opportunity is well suited for an accounting professional with experience in real estate development, land development, or construction accounting who thrives in a project-based, multi-entity environment.

• Maintain accurate accounting records for development projects and related entities
• Review, code, and post AP invoices to correct projects, cost codes, and GL accounts
• Track job costs related to land acquisition, development activities, horizontal improvements, and vertical construction
• Monitor budget-to-actual performance and collaborate with project teams to resolve cost variances
• Assist with capitalization of development costs and allocation of indirect costs in accordance with GAAP

• Prepare and record journal entries, including accruals, reclasses, and cost allocations
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts such as cash, prepaid expenses, construction in progress, inventory, debt, and accrued liabilities
• Maintain organized supporting schedules and documentation for audit readiness
• Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and project-level reporting
• Produce development performance reports, including lot cost detail and profitability analysis
• Support cash flow forecasting and project-level financial projections
• Partner with BI and leadership teams to ensure accounting data flows accurately into dashboards and management reports

• Assist with preparation and tracking of development draw requests
• Support lender reporting requirements and maintain organized financing documentation
• Monitor project-level cash activity and assist with bank reconciliations
• Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal accounting policies
• Support audit and tax processes by providing requested documentation and schedules
• Identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes, reporting, and job cost tracking
• Participate in system enhancements and special reporting projects

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
• 2–5 years of accounting experience
• Experience in real estate development, residential construction, land development, or job cost accounting strongly preferred
• Background in project-based and multi-entity accounting environments is a plus

• Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting
• Working knowledge of construction and job cost accounting and cost capitalization
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
• Experience with accounting and job cost systems such as Sage, Quick Books, or similar platforms

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
