Licensed Practical Nurse Wage​/Evenings

Job Summary

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) wage position at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SVMHI). No benefits. Salary $28.75/hr with shift differentials. Work days and evenings, up to 28 hours a week.

• Provide advanced nursing care for patients with psychiatric disorders in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and nursing standards.
• Safely implement restraints and seclusion, applying knowledge of patients’ physical and emotional risk factors.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate care using pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorder knowledge, and cultural awareness.
• Demonstrate effective communication, team‑focused care, and a professional approach.
• Complete BLS, Therapeutic Options (TO), and all required training upon employment.
• Attend a 4‑week New Employee Orientation (minimum 16 hours a week).

• 1st shift (weekend) – $3.00/hr
• 2nd shift (weekday) – $3.50/hr; 2nd shift (weekend/holidays) – $3.50/hr
• 3rd shift (weekday) – $2.50/hr; 3rd shift (weekend/holidays) – $4.00/hr

• Current LPN license in Virginia or license eligible.
• Basic computer skills; trained to document in an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of nursing and psychiatric nursing theory.
• Experience in psychiatric, acute care, long‑term, or correctional settings (preferred).
• Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (preferred).
• Veteran and national service experience encouraged.

• Fingerprint‑based criminal history check, drug screen, and reference checks.
• Disclosure of vaccination status; proof of vaccination if fully vaccinated.
