The Hughes Center is a highly‑structured psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 10‑22 with neurodevelopmental disorders, located in South Central Virginia. We provide individualized and holistic care, multidisciplinary evaluations, evidence‑based treatment and educational interventions, and aim to increase each youth’s functional independence.

- Plan, direct, implement, and evaluate all aspects of nursing care for residents ages 10‑22.
- Ensure nursing services are provided in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care and the Interdisciplinary Plan of Treatment.
- Monitor, report, and document residents’ behavior and physiological status.
- Administer medications and perform treatments/procedures.
- Guide the response to residents who are behaviorally out of control or experiencing a medical or behavioral crisis in collaboration with the nurse manager and physician.
- Report accurately and concisely to oncoming shifts regarding residents’ conditions.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in the State of Virginia (or eligible to receive or renew).
- Current CPR or BLS certification preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire.
- Ability to successfully complete and pass all components of Handle With Care & Verbal De‑escalation Crisis Intervention Training.
- Ability to use and supervise Handle With Care (HWC) techniques.
- Reflect behavior, attitude, and appearance appropriate to the position and be supportive of the facility and division philosophy, goals, and objectives.
- Effectively communicate both verbally and via written documentation.
