Milieu Manager

Located in South Central Virginia. The Hughes Center is a highly-structured psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 10 to 22 with neurodevelopmental disorders. The center also provides private, community-based educational services. We provide both individualized and holistic care for adolescents and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a nurturing, family-friendly environment. We utilize a multidisciplinary team approach to provide comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based treatment and educational interventions with the goal of increasing each youth's functional independence.

Our team addresses medical conditions and challenging behaviors often associated with neurodevelopmental disorders and helps residents adapt learned skills to new environments and when returning to homes or community settings.

This is a full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package and generous paid time off. We are seeking an attentive, knowledgeable, flexible, dependable, and self-motivated individual to fulfill the role of Milieu Manager at our Danville RTC location.

The Milieu Manager provides leadership and supervision to direct care staff to ensure direct patient care duties are performed in a residential behavioral health setting. The selected candidate will work with the Program Director and an interdisciplinary team to implement programming and provide ongoing training to create and maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu. The Milieu Manager ensures patient engagement, ensures the program schedule is followed, assigns unit tasks, and enforces facility policies.

In collaboration with Program Coordinators and/or RN and AOC, ensures all incidents are reported, reviewed, debriefed, and a 24-hour report is completed and sent to all teams.

Additional Job Duties

  • Have a strong working knowledge of all MHT job functions and duties
  • Assist in supervising and scheduling staff
  • Facilitate company- and facility-required trainings to staff as required by licensing and accreditation standards
  • Model professional behavior and standards of care to staff as a teacher, trainer, and coach when on the unit or in ratio
  • Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to MHTs and Lead Technicians to ensure consistent application of policy, procedure, and unit schedules
  • Assist with the training and orientation of new unit staff to build rapport and engagement, reinforcing the importance of teamwork and collaboration
  • Observe competence related to new hires during onboarding
  • Monitor the milieu to ensure safety of patients and staff; act as a first responder in crisis situations
  • Assist with patient groups and activities as needed
  • Participate in treatment team meetings as needed to ensure a safe, therapeutic, and engaging environment
  • Document and communicate unusual or erratic changes in patients' behaviors and/or condition
  • Support the patient discharge process and assign duties to milieu staff as necessary
  • Conduct MHT interviews and make recommendations for hire as necessary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or Psychology or a Human Services field of study, required
  • Hold a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Minimum two years of experience working in a residential facility for children, of which one year must be supervisory; five years of experience working with children preferred
  • QMHP certification, preferred

  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to sit, bend, kneel or stand for extended periods
  • Reflect behavior, attitude, and appearance appropriate to the position and be supportive of the facility and division philosophy, goals, and objectives
  • Complete and pass all components of Handle With Care and Verbal De-escalation Crisis Intervention Training
  • Perform facility-approved First Aid and CPR techniques
  • Understand and demonstrate therapeutic boundaries
  • Willing to be a team player and offer valuable insight to the team
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in written documentation
  • Able to rotate shifts and units as necessary
