Part-Time Museum Generalist

Overview

The Danville Science Center is seeking a dynamic and energetic part-time Museum Generalist to be a vital part of our guest experience team. In this exciting and multifaceted role, you will deliver high-quality customer service and represent our brand with enthusiasm. This is a part-time position scheduled for 20-25 hours a week, but no more than 1500 hours in a 12-month period.

• Engage visitors through exhibit interpretation and assist with hands-on STEM programs, outreach events, birthday parties, and special events.
• Provide guest services support, operate the Dome theater console, assist in the museum gift shop, help maintain the Butterfly Station, and take on other tasks aligned with the museum’s mission and strategic goals.

• The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to implement STEM education in informal settings or possess equivalent training and experience.
• Strong customer service skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities, and proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
• Self-starters capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and able to effectively engage with individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
• Confident and dynamic presentation skills in both one-on-one and group settings, with the ability to deliver content in an engaging and energetic manner.
• Extensive customer service experience and/or training, as well as experience in cash handling and/or retail sales.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to accurately manage money and inventory with accountability.
• Must be able to work weekends (Sunday shifts required), holidays and occasional evenings depending on museum programming and events.

• Museum experience and an interest in science and/or experience in K-12 science education is a plus.
• Experience working with children of various ages.
• ASL or Spanish language competencies is a plus.
