Job Summary

Geisinger is proud to offer a Patient Care Technician a $18.94 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts! Also offering up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse!

Job Duties

Geisinger is excited to be piloting a new model of care on our Advanced Acute Care Units at our Danville campus. The ACE Nursing Model of Care will utilize more Patient Care Technician staff to take responsibility for and perform the duties that do not require a nursing license, freeing the licensed nurse to perform the advanced skills that align with nursing education and training.

This new model of care will allow Patient Care Technicians more opportunity for career advancement, autonomy in their role, and greater involvement in the delivery of patient care.

Primary duties include:

  • Primary facilitator of ADLs: hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals
  • Vital signs
  • Point of Care testing
  • Turning & repositioning
  • Daily weights
  • Equipment checks & exchanges
  • Dressing care
  • Removal of Foley Catheter and Peripheral IV
  • Nasogastric tube removal and performing nasal swabs
  • Checking code carts and oxygen storage cabinets

Job Description

May perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and maintain the patient care and unit environment consistent with the policies, procedures, and practices. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.

  • Provides patient care as directed, within the nursing assistant scope of practice, in meeting the multidisciplinary care plan established for each patient.
  • Identifies, observes, and documents the physical needs of the patient according to established standards. Reports any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
  • Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.
  • Provides for or assists patients with activities of daily living and fulfills designated and delegated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care. Includes patient hygiene and changing linens.
