Job Summary

Geisinger offers a sign‑on bonus of $1,500 for eligible candidates, a minimum hourly rate of $18.94 with increased rates for experienced candidates, and up to $3 shift differentials for evenings, nights, and weekends. Up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

Job Duties (ACE Nursing Model of Care)

Geisinger is piloting a new model of care on its Advanced Acute Care Units at Danville, Bloomsburg, and Shamokin campuses. The ACE Nursing Model uses more Patient Care Technicians to handle duties that do not require a nursing license, freeing licensed nurses for advanced tasks. This model provides Technicians greater opportunity for career advancement, autonomy, and greater involvement in patient care delivery.

Duties Include
  • Primary facilitator of ADLs: hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals
  • Collecting vital signs and daily weights
  • Conducting point‑of‑care testing
  • Turning and repositioning patients
  • Performing equipment checks and exchanges
  • Dressing care
  • Removal of Foley catheter and peripheral IV
  • Nasogastric tube removal and performing nasal swabs
  • Checking code carts and oxygen storage cabinets

Job Description

May perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and maintain the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies, procedures, and practices. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.

  • Provides enhanced patient care under the direction of the licensed nurse, which may include advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley catheter and peripheral IV.
  • May perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to CLSI guidelines.
  • May perform daily, hands‑on aspects of the storage, preparation, and delivery of breast milk, infant, and pediatric formulas.
  • Documents in appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record.
  • Identifies, observes, and documents physical needs of the patient per standards; reports any changes to licensed personnel timely.
  • Obtains and maintains specimen integrity per policy, physician orders.
  • Assists patients with ADLs and fulfills delegated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care, including hygiene and changing linens.
  • Provides one‑to‑one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies.
  • Accurately processes specimens and transports them to the laboratory.
  • Performs point‑of‑care patient testing and instrument maintenance/quality control.
  • Assists in problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and corrective measures for equipment and supplies.
