Job Summary
Geisinger is proud to offer a per diem Patient Companion with market leading pay rates, up to a $3 shift differential for evening, night and weekend shifts, and up to $40,000 in financial support to become an RN.

Job Description
Provides a safe environment, companionship and supportive care for patients that require constant observation as identified by a nurse or physician. Maintains a safe environment for any patient requiring 1:1 supervision and accompanies the patient if they must leave the unit for care provider identified reasons.
- Maintain a safe, private, and comfortable therapeutic environment.
- Redirect impulsive and harmful behavior.
- Remain in clear sight of patient at all times, unless otherwise instructed by nursing staff.
- Call for assistance when unable to redirect patient or when there is potential for self-injury.
- Participate in shift report, conveying pertinent information to the Registered Nurse at shift end.
- Accompany patient to clinical tests, procedures, or appointments off the patient unit.
- Talk with the patient and use conversation to keep them focused.
- Assist patients with meals when swallowing precautions are not in place or when carbohydrate counts are required.
- Assist with bed making.
- Activate bed alarms and chair alarms as needed.
- Assist staff with walking patients.
Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. You are accountable for satisfying job-specific obligations and complying with organization policies. Additional competencies will be considered essential per department-specific orientation.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) - Required
Experience
Certification(s) and License(s)
Basic Life Support Certification – Default Issuing Body
