Overview

Geisinger is proud to offer a Patient Care Technician a $1500 sign on bonus for eligible candidates, $18.94 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts. Also offering up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, committed to delivering the highest quality care, and able to meet orientation and long-term full-time scheduling requirements.

Job Duties

ACE Nursing Model of Care:
Achieving Collaborative Excellence

Geisinger is piloting a new model of care on our Advanced Acute Care Units at our Danville, Bloomsburg, and Shamokin campuses. The ACE Nursing Model of Care utilizes more Patient Care Technician staff to take responsibility for and perform duties that do not require a nursing license, freeing the licensed nurse to perform advanced skills that align with nursing education and training.

This model will allow Patient Care Technicians more opportunity for career advancement, autonomy in their role, and greater involvement in patient care delivery.

Primary duties include:

  • Being the primary facilitator of ADLs: hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals
  • Collecting vital signs & daily weights
  • Conducting Point of Care testing
  • Turning & repositioning patients
  • Performing equipment checks & exchanges
  • Dressing care
  • Removal of Foley Catheter and Peripheral IV
  • Nasogastric tube removal and performing nasal swabs
  • Checking code carts and oxygen storage cabinets

May perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and maintain the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies and procedures. Meets qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.

  • Provide enhanced patient care under the direction of the licensed nurse, including advanced dressing care, suctioning, and removal of Foley Catheter and peripheral IV
  • May perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens per CLSI guidelines
  • May perform daily aspects of storage, preparation and delivery of breast milk, infant and pediatric formulas
  • Document in appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record
  • Identify, observe, and document patient needs; report changes to licensed personnel promptly
  • Obtain and maintain specimen integrity per policy
  • Assist with activities of daily living and ongoing continuum of care (hygiene, linens)
