Position: Patient Care Technician (BP7 Advanced Acute Care) - No CNA Cert Required - Day Shift

Overview

Geisinger is proud to offer a Patient Care Technician a $1500 sign on bonus for eligible candidates, $18.94 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts. Also offering up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

Responsibilities
  • Be the primary facilitator of ADLs: hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals
  • Collect vital signs and daily weights
  • Conduct point of care testing
  • Turn and reposition patients
  • Perform equipment checks and exchanges
  • Dressing care
  • Removal of Foley catheter and peripheral IV
  • Nasogastric tube removal and performing nasal swabs
  • Check code carts and oxygen storage cabinets
  • Provide enhanced patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse, including documentation to create complete medical records
  • Identify, observe, and document patient needs; report changes to licensed personnel in a timely manner
  • Obtain and maintain specimen integrity per policy and procedure, per physician order
  • Assist with activities of daily living and ongoing continuum of care; includes patient hygiene and changing linens
  • Provide one-to-one patient safety watch as assigned
  • Transport specimens to the laboratory as required
  • Perform point-of-care testing and instrument maintenance and quality control
  • Assist in problem solving, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment and supplies
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students
  • Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths; facilitate patient throughput; transcribe and process orders
  • Release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments
  • Coordinate patient transportation to multiple tests
  • Obtain and communicate electronic information pertinent to the nursing unit; schedule tests and faxes as needed
  • Assist in ordering supplies and managing stationery and floor stock
  • Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets
  • Operate and troubleshoot clerical equipment; schedule maintenance for computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
  • Access non-controlled medications storage and transport as needed; assist with transporting medications and blood products as required
  • Discharge follow-up calls and coordinate virtual discharge appointment teams
  • Support and assist staff with drills and quality rounds; participate in regulatory readiness as needed

Position Details

BP7 Advanced Acute Care Medical

Schedule: Three 12-hour Day shifts (7:00am – 7:30pm) including every other weekend and holiday

Required Orientation: Two-week classroom orientation at start of employment (Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm)

No experience needed. Comprehensive on-the-job training provided.
