Essential Job Functions
The Assistant Vice President, Actuary will serve as a leader within the actuarial team, driving pricing strategy, portfolio profitability, and analytical support for underwriting and executive stakeholders. This role owns key actuarial initiatives across pricing, results monitoring, and reporting, while enhancing tools, methodologies, and decision-making support. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, business acumen, and the ability to influence cross-functional partners through clear, actionable insights.
Pricing& Profitability Analysis
- Provide advanced pricing leadership and actuarial guidance to underwriting teams across Specialty Programs, Alternative Risks, & Excess Casualty.
- Spearhead the development, refinement, and deployment of pricing tools for actuaries and underwriters.
- Direct and oversee trend analyses and the updating of key actuarial assumptions (ILF, LDF, etc.).
- Coordinate the preparation of rate filing exhibits, responses to state insurance department objections, and state data call submissions.
- Enhance monthly, quarterly, and annual management reporting deliverables, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and timeliness.
- Identify, design, and drive reporting process improvements that strengthen efficiency and enable more robust, data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Serve as a key resource to underwriting and claims teams by delivering actionable insights and strategic recommendations.

- 7+ years of property and casualty actuarial experience, with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access; experience with actuarial modeling tools preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of SQL, VBA, Python, or similar languages.
- Proven ability to independently manage and execute projects with minimal oversight, consistently delivering quality results.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex actuarial concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or related field required.
- Fellow or Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society strongly preferred.
