Job Summary

This position supervises the maintenance personnel and serves as the primary contact for all maintenance and repair operations throughout properties managed by Hendricks County Parks & Recreation. The Park Manager reports directly to the Superintendent of the Parks & Recreation Department.

This position plans, schedules, evaluates, supervises, and participates in the maintenance, repair, and construction of landscaped areas, trails, natural areas, the department’s support buildings, restrooms, and nature centers.

Essential Job Functions
  • Directs and supervises all full‑time and part‑time maintenance personnel daily; organizes and prioritizes work assignments; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work.
  • Is on‑call and available to respond to emergency calls and situations at any department property 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.
  • Conducts employment interviews for maintenance vacancies.
  • Trains, schedules, supervises, disciplines, evaluates, and provides orientation, information, guidance, and expertise to maintenance staff and volunteers.
  • Supervises and performs various tasks associated with the repair and maintenance of the department’s properties, facilities, and equipment; possesses a strong ability to troubleshoot and repair small engines.
  • Establishes and oversees implementation of maintenance policies and procedures for all department properties, facilities, equipment, and tools; conducts regular inspections to ensure compliance.

  • Ensures compliance with Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) rules and regulations including, but not limited to, any required permitting and/or licensing, IDEM inspections, the collection and submittal of water quality samples, and annual start‑up and shutdown of seasonal facilities.
  • Safely administers pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals at all department properties as necessary.
  • Creates and maintains signage throughout all department properties.
  • Purchases and maintains supplies, tools, and equipment necessary for daily maintenance operations and special projects.
  • Maintains the department’s equipment inventory and maintenance records.
  • Maintains and monitors the department’s surveillance systems; researches and implements new and/or适 initesand technologies as necessary.
  • Prepares and submits long‑ and short‑range goals for park improvements to the Superintendent.
  • Plans and oversees the construction of trails, boardwalks, bridges, and other park amenities; designs and implements unique solutions to unique challenges.
  • Demonstrates a thorough familiarity with GPS, GIS, Google Earth, Google Maps, Beacon, and other electronic mapping software and services.
  • Assists the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent with overseeing and inspecting field work in capital projects, including maintaining positive working relationships with contractors, engineers, and architects.
  • Assists the muuester the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent in the preparation of the annual maintenance budget requests and ensures that spending does not exceed the allocated funds of the approved встр.
  • Submits a weekly written summary of maintenance activities and progress to the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent.
  • Displays and fosters a positive and friendly attitude with all park patrons, the Hendricks County Parks & Recreation Board of Directors, department staff, and other county employees and elected officials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education & Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Biology, Landscape Management, or related field is required. A minimum of four (4) years of related experience in a supervisory role is required.

License or Certificates

Possession of a valid Indiana driver’s license and a demonstration of a safe driving record. Ability to obtain a chemical applicators license within six (6) months of hire.
