Overview
Join our team as a Sr Installation Engineer and play a critical role in supporting the VA's EHR deployment and training requirements. As a key member of our team, you will oversee a team of on‑site technicians, manage workload, and ensure seamless connectivity at various training sites. Location/Travel- This position is fully on‑site at the Danville VAMC (1900 East Main St, Danville, IL 61832)
- This role requires ability to travel up to 50% of the time and meet travel requirements.
NOTE:
Site travel is generally expected to be short trips, but may extend up to 1‑4 weeks at a time. Travel is in support of the VA's EHR deployment and training requirements. This position requires frequent travel by vehicle and must be able to drive safely and navigate a variety of routes. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Occasional air travel may also be required.
When not on travel the staff member will work at the local VA doing daily helpdesk/system administrator/network onsite tasks.
- Ability to obtain a Department of Veterans Affairs Public Trust.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information System, Information Technology, or Equivalent and 10 total years of experience.
- 18 total years of relevant professional experience required in lieu of a degree.
- 5+ years of experience with designing, analyzing, configuring, or troubleshooting IP networks.
- Experience in managing technical teams.
- Experience with Wi‑Fi hardware – configuration, management, and issue resolution.
- Experience with network hardware – install, configuration, management, and issue resolution.
- Experience with hardware and software support, troubleshooting, system imaging, hardware break‑fix support, and refresh, upgrade, and deployment projects.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Possession of excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience writing reports/deliverables.
- Familiarity with network technologies, analyzing network traffic, and determining network issues.
- Able to travel up to 50% of the time and meet travel requirements.
- Oversee a team of on‑site technicians supporting the VA's EHRM deployment and training project.
- Manage workload, including setup of equipment at various training sites.
- Verify each computer has the most current VA computer image, and ensure computer is available for scheduled security scans and updates.
- Configure network connectivity in the training room.
- Install computer peripherals at each training seat.
- Configure and manage baseband network connectivity, including configuration, management, and issue resolution.
- Configure and manage internet connectivity, including configuration and issue resolution.
- Configure and manage Wi‑Fi hardware, including configuration, management, and issue resolution.
- Perform hardware start‑up, imaging, configuration, updating, naming, break/fix, and issue resolution.
- Manage inventory and network connectivity at each training site, ensuring connectivity during all training sessions.
- Provide support during installations and ongoing support for issue resolution, with potential for onsite support tasks.
- Operate with limited supervision.
- Possession of strong critical thinking and error assessment capabilities.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows desktop deployments.
- Experience as IT helpdesk Tier 2.
- Public Trust Clearance.
