The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly.

Qualifications
  • Certifications:

    Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); CMA – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA);
    Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AMT) – American Medical Technologists (AMT);
    Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP);
    Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Health career Association (NHA);
    Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA);
    Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (ARMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA);
    Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AAH) – American Allied Health (AAH)
  • Education:

    High School Diploma / GED
Responsibilities
  • Rooming patients: collecting pertinent information regarding chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and medication reconciliation on arrival for a patient visit
  • Telephone interactions: completing necessary telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and/or other health care facilities; gathering information and maintaining patient information via telephone per department processes
  • Administrative tasks: patient check in/out, prior authorizations, scheduling appointments, verification of benefits, and coordination of referrals and testing
  • Office procedures as directed and per department competencies
  • Perform procedures at the direction of a provider as appropriate (e.g., urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture or staple removal, application/removal of casts, reading TB test results); refer to department nurse if TB screening indicates positive read
  • Provide written instructions regarding procedures, medications, or follow-up instructions as directed by the provider
  • Retrieve and provide condition-specific education from the internet, internal website, or printed materials per provider orders
  • Administer medications per provider order; assist with prescription refills per department protocols; call medications into pharmacies; notify patients of refills; document actions in the EMR
  • Maintain department-specific competencies related to point-of-care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training
  • Apply/remove Holter monitor; perform EKG; perform glucose; order entry; apply 30-day monitor; clean monitor leads

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $18.33 per hour – $29.69 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on factors including experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
