The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly.
Responsibilities- Rooming patients: collecting pertinent information regarding the patient's chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and medication reconciliation upon arrival for a patient visit.
- Telephone interactions: completing necessary telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and/or other health care facilities as directed.
- Administrative tasks: patient check-in/check-out, prior authorizations, scheduling appointments, verification of benefits, and coordination of referrals and testing; office procedures as directed and per department competencies.
- Clinical tasks as directed: procedures such as urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture or staple removal, application or removal of casts, reading results of negative TB skin tests, and directing patients to appropriate care when TB screening indicates a positive read; other diagnostic testing at the point of care.
- Provide patient instructions: written instructions regarding procedures, medications, or follow-up instructions at the direction of the provider.
- Education and information retrieval: CMA staff may retrieve and provide condition-specific education from the internet, internal website, or printed materials per provider directions and orders.
- Medication management: administer medications per provider orders and assist with prescription refills per department protocols; call medications into pharmacies and document actions within the EMR.
- Maintain competencies: keep department-specific competencies related to point-of-care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training.
- Monitor management: apply/remove Holter monitor, perform EKG, perform glucose, order entry, apply 30-day monitor, and clean monitor leads.

CMA (NCCT) - National Center for Competency Testing; CMA (AAMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants; RMA (AMT) - American Medical Technologists; NRCMA - National Association for Health Professionals; CCMA - National Health career Association; BLS within 30 days - American Heart Association; RMA (ARMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants; RMA (AAH) - American Allied Health;
Education:
High School Diploma or GED.

The compensation range for this position is $18.33 per hour - $29.69 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors including experience, qualifications, location, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
