Position Summary

As a Product Development Engineer Co‑Op, you will work with a cross‑functional team to design Abiomed’s next generation of innovative heart pumps and accessories. You will work in a dynamic fast‑paced environment that is disrupting the medical device industry by bringing breakthrough technologies to market. This role will be on one of the various product development teams at Abiomed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in designing components and fixtures.
  • Perform engineering feasibility testing to support design improvements.
  • Execute design verification (DV) testing to evaluate device safety and effectiveness.
  • Conduct root‑cause and failure analyses under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Analyze data and present findings to the broader engineering team.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with regulatory, quality, testing, and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduates (sophomore, junior, senior) or graduate students pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, computer science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong skills in design, testing, and data analysis are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS is preferred.
  • Experience with machining and/or 3D printing is a plus.
  • Prior co‑op experience in the medical device industry is advantageous.
Eligibility & Work Authorization

Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H‑1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually require future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long‑term status that does not require company sponsorship.

Pay and Benefits

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $23.00/hr to $51.50/hr the expected pay range for this position is between $23.00 per hour and $51.50 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co‑Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company-sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co‑Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year;

for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co‑Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
