Purpose: Danbury Public Schools is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to perform skilled maintenance tasks with a primary emphasis on general maintenance. Responsibilities will include performing basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks, and tasks related to maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and construction projects for buildings, equipment, furniture, and systems; tend to the preventive and general needs for maintenance of the District's structures, equipment, furnishings, and systems and for various assignments for repair and rehabilitation projects;

repair and/or install windows, doors, partitions, coiling components, floor tiles, cove base, stair treads, wall coverings, and roofs; perform basic painting, refinishing, and associated work to buildings, furniture, and fixtures.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

• Accept and/or implement instructions from Principal/s, Foreman and or Director of sites and Facilities verbally or in writing.
• Performs all maintenance work as required, using all hand tools and power tools as necessary.
• Inspects equipment and machinery to determine proper functioning and reports recommendations to supervisor.
• Uses all trade related diagnostic equipment to insure proper operation and calibration of equipment and machinery.
• Performs building maintenance and alteration work.
• Moves equipment, furnishings, and other district items as needed.
• Assists with snow removal.
• Makes repairs to all department equipment as needed.
• Ability to work under emergency conditions to effect repairs with expediency and due consideration of clients and conditions.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Able to apply for local building permits.
• Responds to, as needed at any time for emergency calls, overtime, or special needs falling out of normal working hours.
• Project a positive image for the school district at all times.
• Performs related duties as required
• Must possess a thorough knowledge of building codes and mechanical repair trade.
• Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Must have ability to work independently as well as knowledge of electric, plumbing, drywall repair, masonry work, and carpentry.
• Must demonstrate the ability to work from sketches, plans, read and interpret blue prints and schematics and to understand and effectively follow oral and written instructions.
• Must demonstrate skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment common to the trades.
• Demonstrate the ability to lead others when being assisted by others within the class or related classes.
• Must be a high school or trade school graduate, with a CT STate License (E-1 or E2) Electrical license preferred.
• Must have five (5) years experience in the trades.
• Two (2) years experience in commercial/industrial maintenance (preferred.) experience in educational facilities a plus.

Channel of Authority/Organizational Relationships
The Maintenance Mechanic is accountable to the Coordinator of Sites and Facilites and the Foreman.

WAGES: Based on contract terms.

Work Year: 52 weeks; 6:30am - 3:00pm;
Monday-Friday
