The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) will provide clinical leadership and specialized expertise in total joint replacement and other orthopedic procedures.

Provides clinical leadership and expertise in specialty area of total joint replacement and other orthopedic procedures.

• Assists surgeon/anesthesia provider for patients undergoing total joint surgical replacement procedures before, during and after cases.
• Creates and maintains a sterile environment while performing scubbing duties for total joint replacement and other orthopedic procedures.
• Prepares and knows the specific uses of all equipment & supplies used for surgical procedures.
• Provides a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for the surgical patient.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the step-by-step progress of specific surgical procedures and displays dexterity in the use of the required instrumentation.
• Applies knowledge of normal pathological anatomy and physiology and the actions of pharmacologic agents to individualize patient care.
• Maintains accurate implant records and performs all mandated reporting of implants. Assists with ordering of implants and maintenance of inventory of implants and specialty supplies.
• Assists in the education of technicians, nurses, and medical students by providing in‑services.
• Ensures the delivery of quality and cost‑effective care through problem solving and implementation of quality assurance/improvement measures.
• Assists in the technical, radiological, and nursing functions for all on‑call procedures after hours.
• Achieves the organization’s established expectations regarding quality service, teamwork, self‑development and community service.
• Assists in the Performance Improvement Program of the department, and in the training and development of other staff members.
• Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

HS Graduate or Equivalent.

• Minimum of 5 years of OR experience with 3 years of dedicated specialty experience required.
• Desired:
  Surgical Data Systems experience.

• Manual:
  Significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity.
• Occupational:
  Significant occupational risk.
• Physical Effort:
  Very heavy effort. May require exerting up to 50 lbs. of force.
• Physical Environment:
  Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
