The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) will provide clinical leadership and specialized expertise in total joint replacement and other orthopedic procedures.

Responsibilities- Assists surgeon/anesthesia provider for patients undergoing total joint surgical replacement procedures before, during and after cases.
- Creates and maintains a sterile environment while performing scubbing duties for total joint replacement and other orthopedic procedures.
- Prepares and knows the specific uses of all equipment & supplies used for surgical procedures.
- Provides a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for the surgical patient.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the step-by-step progress of specific surgical procedures and displays dexterity in the use of the required instrumentation.
- Applies knowledge of normal pathological anatomy and physiology and the actions of pharmacologic agents to individualize patient care.
- Maintains accurate implant records and performs all mandated reporting of implants. Assists with ordering of implants and maintenance of inventory of implants and specialty supplies.
- Assists in the education of technicians, nurses, and medical students by providing in‑services.
- Ensures the delivery of quality and cost‑effective care through problem solving and implementation of quality assurance/improvement measures.
- Assists in the technical, radiological, and nursing functions for all on‑call procedures after hours.
- Achieves the organization’s established expectations regarding quality service, teamwork, self‑development and community service.
- Assists in the Performance Improvement Program of the department, and in the training and development of other staff members.
- Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
HS Graduate or Equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of OR experience with 3 years of dedicated specialty experience required.
- Desired:
Surgical Data Systems experience.
- Manual:
Significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity. - Occupational:
Significant occupational risk. - Physical Effort:
Very heavy effort. May require exerting up to 50 lbs. of force. - Physical Environment:
Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
