Description
Speech‑Language pathologists provide services that identify, prevent, and rehabilitate speech, language, cognition, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders. They evaluate and analyze patients, provide treatment and instruction to patients/families to maximize functional independence. Clinical responsibilities may include treatment of pediatrics and/or adults and mature adults, and may work in inpatient, outpatient, or pediatrics settings.
Responsibilities- Performs speech/language evaluations on patients with complex diagnoses.
- Performs speech/language therapy treatment planning and implementation for complex patients.
- Provides patient/family education and training.
- Provides peer reviews and participates in performance improvement activities.
- Documentation is completed based on department guidelines.
- Initiates discharge planning.
- Continuing education: attends 20 hours of continuing education per year. Provides 10 hours of in‑service education to staff per year.
- Provides full‑time clinical experience to students and community education lectures.
- Acts as mentor to lower level staff and new staff.
- Participates in orienting, teaching, guiding and evaluating assisting staff.
- Assists with annual competency training and verification.
- Assists with scheduling patients and achieving appropriate staffing.
- Provides coverage in program coordinators' absence as requested.
- Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Master’s level (DGRE) - Minimum experience:
three years - Desired: CPR certification, FEES and MBS clinical experience, Functional Independent Measurement (FIM) certification
