details

The Macricostas School of Arts and Sciences is home to 11 departments offering 19 undergraduate majors and 6 graduate degrees that offer a variety of ways for students to further their education. The Macricostas Endowed Teaching Fellowship is open to any discipline that involves Hellenic and Modern Greek Studies, which include, but are not limited to, Philosophy, Classics, Greek Language, Religious Studies, and Archaeology.

The Macricostas Fellow will be expected to be available for interactions with students, faculty, and the general public that contribute to the intellectual life of the university and the local community. Examples of co-curricular experiences may include but are not limited to public presentations on the Macricostas Fellow’s ongoing research, consulting with relevant local/regional agencies and organizations, hosting relevant speakers, and organizing trips to regional events or exhibits of relevant interest to the campus community and general public.

The Macricostas Fellow will perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Office space in a relevant academic department, travel funds, and shared access to clerical support will be provided. Grant opportunities are available to support research and conference attendance. Appointment details

This is a one-semester, part-time faculty appointment with the potential for renewal for up to 2 years. The position is comprised of a 3-credit teaching load in the incumbent’s area of specialization. This class can be taught in-person, online (asynch. or synch.) or hybrid. In addition, the Macricostas Endowed Teaching Fellow will be awarded 3 credits of reassigned time to develop and implement co-curricular experiences, in consultation with the Macricostas Executive Stewardship Committee, that meet the following objectives:

  • Educate students, the university community, and the general public about the contributions that Ancient Greece has made to contemporary civilization;
  • Invite scholarly study of the Classics and Modern Greece;
  • Demonstrably promote the discipline of Greek and Hellenic Studies at the
Qualifications
  • PhD, ABD, or Master’s Degree in an academic discipline related to Hellenic and Modern Greek Studies required
  • Prior successful teaching experience in a higher education environment
  • A record of distinguished scholarship
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Individuals with equivalent experience and background qualifications will be considered
Salary & Benefits

$13,290 per semester ($2,215 per credit hour) for fellows with a PhD and $12,156 ($2,026 per credit hour) for fellows with an MA or MPhil for a part-time position of six (6) credit hours per semester. Additional information on part time employment at WCSU may be found at
